Hope for Future Generations

HFFG’s mission is to advocate for women, children and families in the fight against preventable diseases as well as mobilizing communities, strengthening their capacity and using their own resources for acceptable and sustainable projects.

HFFG has been working in partnership with five major international organizations towards the welfare of people, particularly women and children in deprived rural communities in the Central, Greater Accra, Eastern and Volta Regions of Ghana. Their partners include Plan International and the Ghana Aids Commission. HFFG has received grants from USAID and DFID (UK's Department for International Development).

The organization's key areas of focus are:

Reproductive health.
Child survival
Research
Income generation
Gender-based advocacy and promotion of the rights of children.
Promotion of basic health care.
Sanitation and hygiene education

The volunteers

Fundraiser - Accra
HFFG are looking for a volunteer fundraiser in their Accra office. The role would entail formulating and implementing a viable, long-term fundraising initiative, contacting and meeting potential donors and building a database of prospective donors.
The volunteer will also get to travel with the Accra office staff to all their field projects around Ghana to get an in-depth understanding of the work HFFG performs.

Child Survival Project Officer - Central Region
The goal of the child survival project is to promote and maintain the optimal growth and development of children under five years and improve the general health of children, mothers and girls in reproductive age by strengthening a responsive and sustainable community-managed primary healthcare system which encourages changes in health related behaviours and attitudes. A volunteer is required to assist in the coordination of this project.

Health Care Workers - Central Region
Health care workers are required to manage malaria, diarrhoea and pneumonia cases in the Central Region and to provide information sessions on issues relating to malaria, diarrhoea, pneumonia, HIV/AIDS/STIs, water, sanitation and hygiene.

Income Generation Project Officer - Volta Region
HFFG are currently undertaking an income generation project for women in rural communities. Their aim is not only to enable women to become self-sufficient but also to improve the nutrition of the children in the project area. A volunteer is required to assist in the coordination of this project.

What kind of skills you need for this placement:
Volunteers must demonstrate either educational experience or work experience in one of the following fields, healthcare, fundraising, HIV/AIDS, or development.
You will need to be flexible and tolerant, show initiative and enthusiasm to face the many hurdles and challenges that you will encounter.

In order to maintain the sustainability and high performance of this project all volunteers are required to complete a detailed hand-over document for successive volunteers.

Health and Safety
Volunteers should show due care and diligence whilst in placement. We recommend volunteers do not walk alone at night. Refrain from bringing expensive items as these attract attention.
