Cape Coast School for the Deaf

Cape Coast School for the Deaf (Cape Deaf) aims to give formal education to hearing-impaired children in Ghana. The school seeks to equip its students with basic literacy, numeracy and problem solving skills. Furthermore it teaches its students important skills such as carpentry, farming, and dressmaking, enabling the students to be participants in the socio-economic life of this developing nation. Cape Deaf is amazing, such a happy, vibrant and positive school.

Where is the placement based?
The placement is based just outside of Cape Coast. Cape Coast is the regional capital of the Central Region about 145km west of Accra. It is a historic town and the first capital of Ghana. It was the first town to come into contact with the "white man" so it is often referred to as the "white man’s town". It enjoys a lot of top ranking educational facilities and can boast of some of the best schools in the country.
Cape Coast is built on hills and has a lively, bustling central area around the old slave castle and market. The slave castle is one of Ghana's prime tourist attractions in the region where Elimina castle and Kakum National Park can also be found. There is a big market called Kotokuraba Market. There is a university, 3 hospitals, a post office, police station and a number of commercial banks.
