Airport Pick up

Ikando volunteers will be met at the airport by an Ikando member of staff at the arrivals hall just outside the airport. Even if your plane is delayed (no matter what time)! Please keep an eye out for a sign with your name on it.

Please make sure you send us your travel details to ensure we know when to pick you up.

The vast majority of international flights arrive late in the evening. This is not a problem for us and we are well used to picking volunteers up at 11pm.

We urge volunteers to arrive on a weekday as weekend pick-ups will be surcharged. Weekend airport pick-ups will be charged at £15. Please email us to request this service. Payment can be made in-country.

Volunteers are first taken to our Accra accommodation. Arrivals during the day usually want to take it easy and catch up on some sleep. An Ikando member of staff will take you around whenever you like to get some shopping in, change your money, sort a phone out, help you get your bearings and anything else you may need. Should you be volunteering outside Accra you will either be taken that day or the following day to your placement.

Upon arrival at our Accra accommodation you will get the opportunity to meet our volunteers in Accra and some of our staff. Our volunteers do take care of each other. Its not uncommon for a volunteer arriving at 11pm to be taken out on the town, to only get to bed at 4am after a night of partying.. Don't worry, if that happens you can have a lie in!
