African Business Network

African Business Network is a registered Enterprise Development Non-Governmental Organization that specializes in the provision of capacity building programmes for micro and small enterprise development institutions, especially those involved in assisting women and youth enterprise groups. The network since its inception has undertaken a number of initiatives aimed at promoting and developing micro-enterprise and entrepreneurship among business owners, women and youth groups.

It's domain of activity covers Marketing & Public Relations, Business Management & Development and Project Management. It has received support from the United Nations Development Programme and the United Nations System Gender Programme for some of its projects.

Volunteers will work in the areas of research, strategic business advice and planning, programme development and management, resource mobilisation and strategic planning to support the organisation to achieve the objectives above.

Current Placement Opportunities

Micro-finance Business Advisor/Development Practitioner
They are looking for a development practitioner to develop micro-finance packages and services for their Development Partners. The volunteers should have a relevant degree and preferably some work experience.
AA01

Business Development Researcher are needed to assess, monitor, and evaluate ongoing projects. The ideal candidate will have a background in business and/or development studies.
AA02

Women Enterprises Development Officer
They are looking for a development practitioner to facilitate women networks and business associations to advocate for access to finance for women in Micro, Small and Medium scale Enterprises . The volunteers should have a relevant degree and preferably some work experience.
AA03

Youth Enterprises Development Officer
They are looking for a development practitioner to facilitate youth networks and business associations to advocate for access to finance for youth in Micro, Small and Medium scale Enterprises . The volunteers should have a relevant degree and preferably some work experience.
AA04

Agribusiness Development Advisor
They are looking for a Agribusiness Development Advisor to facilitate agribusiness development programmes. The volunteers should have a relevant degree and preferably some work experience.
AA05

The role will be quite hectic with a minimum working day of 8hrs required. All interns will be required to act professionally and dress appropriately (jackets will need to be on stand-by).

In order to maintain the sustainability and high performance of this project all volunteers are required to complete a detailed hand-over document for successive volunteers.

Health and Safety
There are a number of health clinics and hospitals in the area. The local hospital in Osu is open 24/7. Volunteers should show due care and diligence whilst in placement. We recommend volunteers do not walk alone at night. Refrain from bringing expensive items as these attract attention.

Other details
• The volunteer will be housed in our accommodation in the centre of town, it is clean and well maintained. Previous volunteers described the flat as "a lovely haven in all the chaos." The accommodation is centrally located to Accra, with it possible to walk from the accommodation to nearby shops, communication centres, bars and restaurants.
• The accommodation has 24/7 security
• Washing & ironing facility is available.
• Please arrive on a weekday to avoid being surcharged for weekend pick-ups.
• There are small stores in the neighbourhood and larger supermarkets can be found a 5-min drive away.
